5:04 am
starting to get real slippery at least on the roads in chester county. >> all right, randy, be careful out there this morning. meanwhile the philadelphia streets department is ready for this storm. crews have loaded salt trucks and will spread it on primary and secondary roads and bridge decks. of course you can download the nbc 10 app to track the snow as it moves through the area this morning. you can also get instant weather and traffic alerts. it's 5:04. in other news now two brothers are now the victims of gun violence. we're told they may have been targeted last night in retaliation for a street fight. moments later they say they heard five gunshots. one bullet hit one of the brothers in the face. both were in critical condition at the hospital last night. police have not made any

5:08 am
i'm meteorologist bill henley. we're tracking some snow and some rain in the area this morning. allentown has seen some steady snowfall and the temperatures are just cold enough for that accumulation. not a lot of snow, but it has been a steady light snow overnight. lee high valley, 32 degrees. 32 in the suburbs. philadelphia, south jersey, temperatures above freezing. we're starting to see the rain that had fallen overnight change into snow. important because the warmer that ground is, the less likely we're going to see accumulation. and not really expecting a lot in south jersey. it's the timing of this system for the morning commute that's a problem more than anything. the atmosphere is cooling down that colder air is making some steady progress moving into the area. so it's starting to show on the
5:09 am
radar that it's starting to change over from rain to snow. it's already happening in philadelphia, too. we're still getting some rain drops mixed in. but it's steady light snow into the suburbs and lee high valley. nothing heavy about this snowfall. and it's not going to be heavy during the day. it will be coming to an end during the day. a look at the progress it'll make this morning and when it'll finally move out. meteorologist crystal fly has been standing by with an update. >> the totals aren't going to be impressively high. let's take a live camera view outside. and this is where they will hunt all of the snow. it's all about the fluffy flakes falling onto the mountain side. and those areas actually starting to see reports between 3 to 5 inches of snow near parts of the poconos. but further south the amounts are going to be lower because temperatures are a little too warm yesterday afternoon.
5:10 am
we go through 6:00 a.m. this morning and snow north and west. that change still occurring over south jersey and delaware. but 8:00 a.m. we are looking at a light snow that's falling through the i-95 corridor right in the middle of our morning commute. even if it's only an inch that could lead to some slick roadways. by 1:30 this afternoon everything starting to dry up. we'll stay around freezing but the evening commute should be okay. >> let's talk more about that commute, crystal. >> both directions maybe look a little wet. not a lot of cars out the door there, either. i want today show you that anyway just to show yesterday afternoon they started salting operations on the roads here, too. so that's a good thing. the rest of the new jersey roads
5:11 am
aren't doing too bad. on the north and southbound side all of othothose roads are clea right now, and we're watching a crash. >> jessica, thank you. still ahead, powerful words in the courtroom. >> you used my body for six years for your own sexual gratification. >> the victims testify against the former usa gymnastics it doctor they say abused them for years. and tackling the opioid epidemic. the store that's giving customers a new way to get rid of their leftover pills. un-stop right there!
5:12 am

5:13 am
5:14 am
it's 5:14. take a live look at 9th street north in south philadelphia where the change over is beginning. snow starting to move in.
5:15 am
roads are slick. that's for sure. and they're only set to get more slippery as the morning goes by. your first alert forecast coming up in just a few minutes. >> little girls don't stay little forever. they grow into strong women that return to destroy your world. predator, master manipulator, monster. these are some of the ways sexual assault victims described their abuser in court. victim statements continue today as the former team doctor awaits his sentencing. >> nbc 10's pamela osborn is in the digital operation center this morning, and pretty powerful words in the courtroom. and this is just the beginning really. having some audio problems.
5:16 am
okay, i think we may have pam. we're going to get back to pam in a second to work out those audio problems. meanwhile we'll continue to follow this slow moving system really transitioning in some areas. >> you can see the picture behind us from broad street is wet. then we're seeing snow on some of our live cameras, wet and rain on others. bill henley will sort it out for you, though. >> yeah, it's the system that started yesterday morning with snow in reading. this is not much of a view this morning, but much more impressive than the light snow we started with yesterday. this is wilmington mean tile, rain overnight. now reporting snow, but you can see by this picture that is some really light snow. it's allentown that has some nice accumulation. it's still snowing in the lee high valley and many of the suburbs.
5:17 am
lancaster, 39 degrees. 32 degrees in allentown. even though there's snow falling in wilmington, not seeing accumulation. and above freezing still in northeast philadelphia. 3:00 in the morning that was 36 degrees. last hour it was 35, and now it's 34. so slowly getting colder. that cold air is going to slowly sweep across jersey and delaware, too. even those spots seeing rain will wind up with some snow. will it stick in these areas, probably not. farther inland, yes. it shouldn't be too bad in philadelphia. more likely the suburb and the lee high valley, that's where you're going to see the slippery conditions because of steadier snowfall overnight. and there is snow on the ground. you might have to dust off your car or your walk before it melts. i don't expect a lot of melting today. that's coming over the next few
5:18 am
days. there's the tail end to the west. it's a slow moving system. it was slow to start with. it will be gone this afternoon. what we will feel this afternoon, our cold winds blowing, 13 mile an hour winds in allentown and philadelphia and millville, too. that's the cold air that's going to sweep into the area that's going to limit any warmup we get. late in the afternoon this is when we're more likely to get some breaks of sunshine. we'll peak at 32 and dip down into the 20s. so what's on it ground still later this afternoon will be freezing tonight. and we're on our way to a very cold night tonight. but tomorrow starts a warming trend. not a big warmup. 38 degrees in the afternoon, 40s on friday. and look at the weekend. friday, saturday, and even monday we'll be in the 50s, which means we're in great shape for the eagles game. dry and fair weather, those a few more clouds around in the fourth quarter at 46 degrees.
5:19 am
ten day on ten. show you how long that warmup will last. this is certainly not the type of morning you want to do any type of rushing when you're on the roads. >> go easy and go slow even for your departure. >> even if you might not seeing any accumulating snow and saying i'll take my time and rush around, this is what happens, there's a few accidents already and overturned vehicles. 295 off bound ramp, again an off bound or on bound ramp, typically are we accidents. not moving towards delaware or moving toward central injuresarjersey. it's just the ramp partially
5:20 am
blocked. these are our cameras around cottman avenue. you look up here and that looks like a little bit of snow. but when it gets to the ground, the ground is a little bit warmer so a lot of it's going to melt anyway. either way we're still watch frg the slippery spots. we'll end here with a crash on abington right around north hill avenue. >> they grow into strong women that return to destroy your world. all right, predator, master manipulator, even monster. these are some of the ways sexual assault victims describe their abuser in court. victim statements continue today as a former usa gymnastics team doctor awaits his sentencing. >> right. more than 100 accusers telling
5:21 am
their stories. >> tracy ask dray, dozens more women are planning to face their abuser in court. what happened to them at the hands of dr. larry nasser have stayed secret for decades, but not anymore. nasser who has pleaded guilty to molesting ten girls hid his face behind his hands and at times he was visibly shaking. he had no choice but to listen. the victims didn't hold back. >> he betrayed my trust. >> i've experienced flashbacks and nagt mares of the abuse. >> those impact statements will continue today and expected to last through the end of the week. nasser is facing a maximum of 125 years in prison on top of a
5:22 am
60 year sentence for possessing child pornography. >> all right, thank you, pamela. what led to the killing of a penn student. the victim's parents believe they know. plus using new technology to track down an attacker. how investigators hope to use dna and a hunch to take down the man who assaulted a jogger. and helping in the fight against drug abuse. a popular change chain stores are providing customers with new ways to ditch their old prescriptions.
5:23 am
5:24 am
5:25 am
taking a live look at broad street in center city this morning. the change over is happening. snow is starting to fall. the roads are looking wet as you can see there on broad street and are set to get worse as the morning goes on. meanwhile investigators in montgomery county are now turning to new technology to help them find the man who
5:26 am
sexually assaulted a jogger last summer. they hope the technology called phenotyping will help them find a man who attacked a woman in nor nor norris town. the image doesn't reflect things like age and weight. phenotyping offers only an approximation of what the suspect looks like. and that's led to some hesitation from the aclu which fears the images could lead to racial profiling. by offering customers a safe way to dispose of leftover prescriptions, starting today wal-mart and sams club pharmacies will give customers a packet along with their opioid prescriptions. the ingredients in the packet will break down any unwanted pills when mixed with water. 34 degrees at 5:26, we're tracking rain and snow. but many neighborhoods that are
